Yes! GitDiffs supports searching through commit messages, code changes (diffs), author names, and commit IDs. You can use regex patterns and whole-word matching for precise searches.

What is the difference between search-optimized and performance-optimized modes?

Search-optimized mode loads ALL commits for complete searchability but takes longer initially. Performance-optimized mode loads a limited number of commits quickly, ideal for recent history analysis.

Where is my data stored?

All repository data is stored locally on your device - in IndexedDB for the web app or in local files/SQLite for the desktop app. No data is sent to external servers unless you enable cloud sync.

Yes! GitDiffs processes everything locally. We don't collect, store, or transmit your code to any external servers (except for optional AI summaries which use Google AI).

What is the difference between web and desktop versions?

The desktop app uses native git operations (libgit2) for faster performance and offline support. The web app uses GitHub/GitLab APIs and works entirely in your browser without installation.

How do I migrate from JSON to SQLite storage?

The desktop app will automatically prompt you to migrate when SQLite becomes available. The migration preserves all your data and improves performance with full-text search.

I'm getting rate limited by GitHub/GitLab. What should I do?

Create a Personal Access Token (PAT) and add it in the API Keys modal. PATs provide much higher rate limits. For GitHub: Settings → Developer Settings → Personal Access Tokens. For GitLab: Settings → Access Tokens.

The app is slow with large repositories. How can I improve performance?

Enable performance mode in settings to limit the number of commits loaded. You can also use the desktop app which has better performance for local repositories.

My repository isn't loading. What could be wrong?

Check: 1) URL is correct, 2) Repository is public or you have a valid PAT, 3) Your internet connection is working, 4) GitHub/GitLab API is accessible. For local repos, ensure the path points to a valid git repository.

Can I export my data?

Yes! Use the workspace export feature to save your repository data and settings to a JSON file that can be imported later or shared with others.
